چکیده
Neurogenesis is the process by which neurones are generated. Early neuro-anatomists considered the nervous system to be incapable of regeneration. Research has now shown that it can occur in the hippocampus if the adult human brain and that exercise may promote it by increasing blood flow to the brain and levels of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). Dementia is associated with a decline in memory and cognition. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia. It is caused by brain atrophy. An abnormal amount of amyloid in the brain is noted 1. Developed countries are experiencing ageing populations and a soaring incidence of Dementia. In absence of an effective drug, non-pharmacological options for prevention and treatment are being explored 8. I undertook a review of the evidence of neurogenesis, its induction by exercise and potential in treatment of AD. Furthermore, with the aid of a " Gedanken Experiment " I sought to propose ways to enhance medical research in this field. INTRODUCTION Our brain contains billions of nerve cells arranged in patterns that coordinate thought, emotion, behaviour, movement and sensation. A complicated highway system of nerves connects our brain to the rest of your body, so communication can occur in split seconds. The nervous system is formed by the neurons and associated cells. Interconnected with each other, neurons are able to provide efficient, lightning-fast communication.

P 49: Exercise Effects on Cognitive Impairments Through Altering Neuroinflammation
Cognitive impairments describe a state of diminished or impaired mental and/or intellectual function such as Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease and Parkinson's disease. As these disorders are more frequent in the elderly and due to the ageing of population, serious attention must be paid to these diseases. Exercise has shown to have preventive and therapeutic effects on cognitive impairm...
متن کاملExercise as a pro-cognitive, pro-neurogenic and anti-inflammatory intervention in transgenic mouse models of Alzheimer's disease.
It is now well established, at least in animal models, that exercise elicits potent pro-cognitive and pro-neurogenic effects. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the leading causes of dementia and represents one of the greatest burdens on healthcare systems worldwide, with no effective treatment for the disease to date. Exercise presents a promising non-pharmacological option to potentially dela...
متن کاملThe recent development in synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of small molecule to treat Alzheimer's diseases: A review
Alzheimer's disease is a neurological disorder in which the death of brain cells causes memory loss and cognitive decline. A neurodegenerative type of dementia, the disease starts mild and gets progressively worse. Like all types of dementia, Alzheimer's is caused by brain cell death. The most common presentation marking Alzheimer's dementia is where symptoms of memory loss are the most promine...

متن کاملThe Effect of Endurance Training on the Expression of PRDX6 and KAT2B Genes in Hippocampus of Beta Amyloid-Induced Rat Model of Alzheimer's Disease: An Experimental Study
Background and Objectives: Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia. KAT2B (Lysine Acetyltransferase 2B) is a mitochondrial protein known as mitochondria clearing control organ by mitophagy. PRDX6 (Peroxiredoxin 6) is a key regulator of mitophagy and plays a critical role in maintaining mitochondrial ROS (Reactive oxygen species) homeostasis. Therefore, the purpose of this study ...
